The premier of B.C. stated yesterday that the widely criticized cutting of the old giant that triggered the worldwide indignation was made before the introduction of regulations that would have prevented the disaster.
If the premier is not lying, then he and others should answer these questions:
– How come nobody knew that such a treasure was already cut? For months and months?
– How frequently the government inspectors visit the cutting areas? Did they report the cutting? A child would have felt that that cut should have been reported!
– If they reported, why for months the government kept hiding it from the public? Why amid growing opposition of the public, the premier kept silent?
– The First Nations keep asking for support for their request of being those who decide what to cut and also keep telling everyone that they are the best custodians of the wilderness. I am inclined to agree with both the First Nations’ request and statement Then if they make these claims, they obviously are following the cutters in the fields, aren’t they? How come they didn’t report immediately the planned cutting of such an exceptional tree to stop it?
– And why, if the cutting happened not in their presence, they didn’t report it after?
– Teal, the cutter, is not a crazy ravenous individual snapping tree around! Teal’s are people matured by years and years of confrontation with an increasingly hostile public. Doesn’t the management establish the cutting program? Don’t the supervisors prepare reports daily or weekly telling what they plan to cut and then cut to their General Manager?
– Why then such a cutting? Maybe they couldn’t avoid it because it was a commissioned cutting? For some important client, or for a close billionaire they couldn’t ignore?
While waiting for the answers, an invitation to all investigative reporters: start digging, this is an appetizing opportunity for you! We will applaud your work!
Stay safe!
