Dear friends:

The land I grew in is in Africa, in a desertic area along the Red Sea. Massaua is my hometown.

I know more about deserts than about any other type of land.

I found a book describing the Western Desert of Egypt (and I am also familiar with it, I went to live there for a couple of years as a toddler).

Title of the book: SIWA

Author: C.Dalrymple Belgrave

He describes the life in the desert, and I found it wonderful!

His descriptions are accurate and detailed, he presents what is essential to the desert environment.

I already know most of what he writes about, because of my life there, but also because my uncles were all desert men as well, who enchanted me with their stories of their long trips on camels, of their nights passed sleeping in the tents of the Bedouins, or under the immense canopy of the stars, as they were moving from one oasis to another.

A world quite different from the one i live in now!

UN BEL LIBRO

La terra in cui sono cresciuto è in Africa, in un’area desertica lungo il Mar Rosso.

Massaua è la mia città natale.

So di più sui deserti che su qualsiasi altro tipo di ambiente.

Ho trovato un libro che descrive il deserto occidentale dell’Egitto (e lo conosco, ci sono andato a vivere per un paio d’anni da bambino).

Descrive la vita nel deserto e l’ho trovato meraviglioso!

Le sue descrizioni sono accurate e dettagliate, presenta ciò che è essenziale nell’ambiente desertico.

So già gran parte di ciò di cui scrive, per via della mia vita lì, ma anche perché i miei zii erano tutti anch’essi uomini del deserto, che mi hanno incantato con i racconti dei loro lunghi viaggi sui cammelli, delle notti trascorse dormendo nelle tende dei beduini, o sotto l’immenso baldacchino delle stelle, mentre si spostavano da un’oasi all’altra.

Un mondo molto diverso da quello in cui vivo adesso!
